Example for a 2nd Edition (2024) Banknote description

Typical example of a banknote presentation / description within the 2nd Edition book, here for the extremely rare Laguna 1 Centavo denomination, LAG-0001.

Since publication of the 2nd Edition book in 2024, a considerable amount of new information as well as previously unrecorded notes have been found. The purpose of this (and the following) Addendum is to update the catalog with all available new information, illustrations/scans, and new valuation where necessary.

APA-0025 (I) New and better scan of note with SN # 00013 available.
BOH- (A) 1st and 2nd issue; on thin and thick paper.
BOH-0161 / -0163 (A) First / Family names of signing persons were identified as Isidoro / Rufino Acunan or Acuña (for the signing member on the right side on face).
BOH- (A) A 1942 Tagbilaran (Bohol) issue has been reported but remains unconfirmed.
CAG-0052 (A) On thin & thick paper (SN 41373 is thick paper, SN 41374 is thin paper); SN range extended therewith.
LAG-0004 (C) Paper color wrongly given as pink but is gray instead. In addition, a light blue variety is now listed, having a series of dots along the bottom edge.
LUZ-0038 (V) Variety in the bottom text line; no spelling errors and all letters in upper case style.

(SMR-0695) (N) New and previously unlisted note, but might be fake.
SMR-0722 a (V) Denomination numeral stamped in black (Figure 7); commonly denomination numeral stamp is in purple.
SMR-0741 to SMR-0744 (A) SMR-0741 b, -0742 b, 0743 b and -0744 b with differing signature of adjutant are considered to be a separate issue. New code used to list these notes is SMR-0751 to -0754.
SMR- (N) Salcedo, fake note found.

Newly found Dimiao, BOH-0164, 50 Centavos denomination note (by courtesy of M. Buckley), 89 x 66 mm.

Newly found Marking’s Guerrillas, LUZ, 50 Pesos note (LUZ-0049) which shares the same (face) layout with LUZ-0050 (₱1,000), and backside layout with LUZ-0048 and -0050. It seems, just the denomination stamps in the upper corners and lower central part of the note are the only differences between LUZ-0049 and -0050.

APA-0004 (V) New variety found, with an unknown error on the back of the note showing a typo in the word ONLY – here the word is given as ONIL.
APA-0024 (I) New top range SN reported as 7576, instead of 7510 (probably up to 8000).
APA-0025 A (I) SN range extended 0001 - 3303, but without JBT stamp for SNs > 00735. The exact SN for the change from JBT stamp (APA-0025) to BxxxB (APA-0025 A) remains unclear.
BOH-0004 d (A) Notes with a “J” and w/o “J” in lower left corner were reported: could be weak F.D. initials - maybe, as effect of printing error/poor paper or poor printing plate.
BOH-0054 (A) Issued note with SN both in high position, version b has left low/ right high position, version c with both SNs in low position.
CAG-0057 (I) SN range extended up to 29355, instead of previously reported 0501 - 28708.
ILO-0018 (C) Shown notes have wrong reference to Shafer (1974); it is ILO-209, and not ILO-208.
ILO-0019 (C) Shown notes have wrong reference to Shafer (1974); it is ILO-210, and not ILO-209.
LUZ-0052 (A) A ₱100 denomination (see of LUZ-0050) is newly listed while the ₱1,000 shown is now listed with new code: LUZ-0052 (see Shafer (1974): page 154).
MOC-0013 (I) Deviations in dimensions and paper type used were reported while notes were found with 132 x 65 (light brown paper) or 125 x 65 mm (darker brown paper).
NEG-0038 A (I) Description of the “b” variety of NEG-0038 A deleted, and added as new variety “b” to NEG-0038 to avoid confusion.
NOR-0006 A (A) Version b added: showing on back on the right side a misspelling in the word PESOS showing instead of FESOS.
NUV-0005 B (I) Description improved. The back of the notes is now given as: Blank (occasionally, with counterstamp(s)).
PAL-0364 b (A) Scan of this note is now available.
PAL-0614 (N) An unknown version was reported, with different date and 4 instead of 3 signing persons. To be confirmed, listed preliminary as PAL-0614.
PAL-0686 (C) Shown scan is accurately PAL-0706; note is available on white and on blueish paper.
ROM-0064 (N) An unknown note of the 2nd issue was reported.
SMR-0295 (C/I) Specification / reference to SMR-334 deleted, to avoid confusion.
SMR-0591 (A) Scan of this note is now available.
SMR-0741 to -0744 b (C/I) The “b” version of SMR-0741 to -0744 is now listed as separate series, coded as SMR-0751 to -0754.
SMR-0905 b (V) Dimensions of the variety note are 124 x 59 mm. The stamp is of different shape, font and size; spacing is different. Bottom: the gap between bottom line and the line above it is larger. Lower left side: letters are crooked in PESO; bottom left: instead of ONES, here it says ONSS. Top: No spaces before or after Salcedo.
Mismatch of SN on MOC-0016 (C) Headline corrected to Misamis Occidental, as it was given incorrectly as Mountain province.

A new note, preliminary listed as PAL-0614 for Cagayancillo, was reported – but its status (genuine?) is still under dispute.
